sluuuuump

Sorry for my lack of posts/anything interesting. I have been in a creative slump lately. laaaaame. So I have been trying to channel all this slump non-energy into cleaning energy. It is actually sort of working. We are over halfway done deep cleaning our basement which was a horror fest for reasons that is not entirely our fault. And I am trying to go through all my crap to get rid of clutter. My mom gave me this book called Clear Your Cluter with Feng Shui and it is about as ridiculous as it sounds but it works if you put things into a realistic perspective with a positive outlook. I know it's a bit of a stretch but it feels good to get rid of a bunch of stuff I don't need. (and I have a LOT. I am a really bad hoarder)

Hopefully this will change my slump luck into creative productiveness luck.

And here are some things that caught my eye in London. I want to go back!! so bad!!

hair post

I like this artist for a number of reasons, but one of the most intriguing things about Hong Chun Zhang is that she also creates work about lineage and dual cultural identity involving hair. Her work is very powerful to me and I think you will think so too.

publicity

i was in the paper!

http://www.kansascity.com/2010/12/01/2487233/begin-looking-for-gifts-at-the.html

now i have to write a paper...and read 700 pages of material. gahhhhh
one more week and i am free....
till spring semester.

thing's i've been thinking about lately...

laura welker's building garments. combining the literal with the abstract

monica canilao's tent with scales and stuffed linear elements

saggy rainbow.... ? i'm not sure. all i know is that i'm attracted to the depressing yet charming nature of a rainbow that can't stand on its own.
(can't remember where i found this image)

first big summer project

although it's summer, all the stresses of doing dumb responsible adult loan crap has been making me daydream about knitting again and knitting big. so i've started making some new chunky knot knit necklaces and have started machine knitting a gray strip to hopefully hand knit something like this...

but BIGGER! because bigger is better. not really, but in this case, it will be.

I have also been doing lots of net searching for wonderful knit inspirations done by other students/designers.

this is '09 graduate work by Sarah Benning from westminster. i actually found out about her by liz and kim who suggested i look at her work after seeing mine. and it's probably not a big surprise that i love the work she does.
Benning has such a solid concept/collection and a strong way to mix print work with knitting. something that i have a hard time executing.
gahhh envy! must keep working.
